Evening breathing practice

Five Slow Minutes of Breathing

In for four, out for six, sitting by a dark window — the shortest practice in this journal, and the steadiest.

This is the smallest entry in the journal and the one that has lasted longest. Five minutes, seated, lights low: breathe in for a count of four, out for a count of six, and let the exhale do the work.

The first sessions felt like waiting. Around the second week the body started anticipating the slowdown — shoulders dropping a breath or two in, the day's residue thinning out. It has since become the hinge between evening and night, and an emergency tool before hard conversations.

No cushion, app, or timer sophistication required. A phone alarm and a chair are enough; consistency matters far more than posture.
